OPay is currently seeking to hire a Team Lead, Key Account to drive its merchant growth and engagement strategy across Nigeria. As a leading mobile money platform licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, OPay has operated since 2018 and now serves millions of users with a network of over 500,000 merchants nationwide. The company continues to advance financial inclusion by enabling seamless payments, transfers, and access to essential financial services.
In this role, the Team Lead will be responsible for managing and supervising a team of Business Developers to achieve merchant acquisition and retention targets. The successful candidate will develop and execute strategic plans to onboard new merchants, activate accounts, increase transaction volumes, and drive overall revenue growth. A key part of the role also involves building and maintaining strong relationships with high-value merchants and business partners.
Additionally, the Team Lead will oversee merchant performance, ensuring consistent engagement while reducing churn. The role requires conducting market research and analysis to identify opportunities for expansion and improvement in merchant services. Collaboration with internal teams such as Operations, Product, Risk, and Marketing will be essential to deliver a seamless and efficient merchant experience.
The position also demands strong analytical capabilities, including tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), preparing reports, and providing actionable insights to support business growth and market penetration. Ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and operational standards is also a core responsibility.
Applicants are expected to have a minimum of three years’ experience in fintech, payments, merchant acquisition, agent banking, or FMCG field sales. A solid understanding of the merchant value chain, POS business, and digital payments ecosystem is required. Candidates should demonstrate proven experience in managing sales teams and achieving revenue or acquisition targets, alongside strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
A bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, or a related field is required. Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments will be considered an added advantage.
