Contract: Fixed term to December 2026, with possibility of extension
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

About VCMI
The Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative (VCMI) is a multi-stakeholder initiative supporting high-integrity carbon markets to accelerate global climate action. VCMI works with governments, businesses, and civil society to ensure carbon markets contribute effectively to the goals of the Paris Agreement.
VCMI’s Access Strategies Program helps governments in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs) engage effectively in high-integrity carbon markets, leveraging private finance for climate and nature-related projects. A key focus is supporting CVF-V20 member countries to implement Climate Prosperity Plans, unlocking investment to transform climate risks into bankable opportunities.

Role Overview
VCMI is seeking a Policy Associate to join the Carbon Market Access Strategies team. This role is ideal for professionals with experience in climate finance, carbon markets, and government policy. You will lead critical workstreams, engage with governments, and support high-impact programs designed to help EMDEs benefit from carbon finance.
Key Responsibilities
• Support VCMI’s policy analysis and government engagement, including with CVF-V20 member countries.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing and capacity building across the carbon market ecosystem.
• Develop and deliver technical assistance programs, trainings, and workshops.
• Conduct policy analysis of carbon market trends, regulations, and opportunities.
• Support fundraising, grant management, and broader program initiatives.
• Represent VCMI at international events, conferences, and stakeholder convenings.
Who We’re Looking For
Essential:
• Experience in carbon markets and carbon finance (UNFCCC mechanisms and voluntary carbon markets).
• Understanding of government policy processes and experience engaging government officials on climate topics.
• Knowledge of carbon finance as a tool to mobilize climate and development finance.
• Familiarity with the technical assistance ecosystem for carbon finance.
• Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills (English fluency required).
• Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex topics clearly.
• Team player with experience working across disciplines and cultures.
Preferred:
• Experience in international climate/development programs in EMDEs.
• Engagement with government on carbon market policy or regulation.
• Knowledge of indigenous peoples and local communities’ engagement and benefit-sharing best practices.
• Experience with grant management, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Additional language skills.
