Location: Remote (Nigeria-based)
Job Type: Full-Time | Mid-Senior Level
Start Date: September 2026
About Communiqué
Communiqué is a fast-growing media platform focused on Africa’s creative economy. Through a high-quality newsletter, research reports, and multimedia content, we explore the intersection of media, culture, business, and innovation across the continent.
With over 5,000 global subscribers, our work centers on the business of culture—covering sectors such as film, music, streaming, gaming, and the creator economy. We prioritize deep, analytical storytelling over surface-level entertainment coverage, helping audiences understand how Africa’s media industries are financed, distributed, and monetised.
Role Overview
We are seeking a sharp, ambitious business reporter to cover the companies, deals, and people shaping Africa’s media and creative economy. This role is comparable to outlets like Variety or The Hollywood Reporter—but with a distinctly African, analytical perspective.
You will produce 6–8 deeply reported stories monthly, uncovering exclusive insights and building strong industry sources. Your reporting will go beyond trends to reveal the real decisions, deals, and actors shaping the sector.
Key Responsibilities
• Produce 6–8 original, in-depth stories monthly
• Build and maintain a strong network of industry sources
• Break news, uncover exclusives, and identify emerging trends
• Conduct interviews and ensure rigorous fact-checking
• Deliver analytical, business-focused storytelling
• Represent Communiqué in media appearances and industry events
• Collaborate with analysts and research teams
• Uphold high editorial standards across all outputs
Coverage Areas
• Film: financing, distribution, IP, policy, and emerging formats
• Music: streaming economics, touring, deal structures
• Media & Creator Economy: monetisation models, advertising, subscriptions, creator business models
What We’re Looking For
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in journalism (business/media preferred)
• Strong portfolio of original reporting
• Proven source-building and investigative skills
• Solid understanding of business, finance, and media economics
• Strong communication and public speaking ability
• Based in Nigeria (Lagos preferred)
• Ability to work effectively in a remote team environment
Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: ₦5.4 million annually (gross)
• Flexible remote work setup
• Monthly internet allowance (up to ₦20,000)
• Co-working space support (up to ₦20,000)
• Annual performance bonus
• Up to 20% rent support (up to ₦1 million) after one year
• Maternity and paternity leave benefits
This is an opportunity to do high-impact journalism at the intersection of media, culture, and business in Africa—while helping shape how the industry is understood globally.
