Role Purpose
The Nutrition Officer will provide technical support and lead the implementation of nutrition interventions within the project. The role ensures that all activities align with national guidelines global best practices and Save the Children standards. The officer will focus on strengthening both facility and community systems for early identification and management of severe acute malnutrition while supporting IMAM MIYCN and MAMI programming.
Key Areas of Accountability
Programme Support
Coordinate with partners to ensure quality nutrition screening for children under 5 carried out by community nutrition mobilizers. Supervise and support outpatient therapeutic programme services in target communities. Ensure quality counselling sessions on maternal infant and young child nutrition in both group sessions and individual consultations.
Promote integration by working closely with WASH health and child protection teams to ensure complementary service delivery. Monitor nutrition commodities such as ready to use therapeutic food and micronutrient powders to prevent stockouts and ensure proper utilization.
Support capacity building of local partners health workers community mobilizers and mother leaders through on the job coaching and training on IMAM and MIYCN. Assist in conducting nutrition assessments and surveys as required. Ensure accurate and timely data collection and reporting of activities.
Promote awareness of appropriate nutrition practices through behaviour change communication materials and community engagement. Support development of case studies and success stories. Provide key maternal and child feeding messages during programme activities.
Support planning implementation procurement budgeting and reporting of project activities. Identify service delivery gaps and recommend improvements. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities
The role may require carrying out additional tasks based on programme needs within the scope of the officer’s skills and experience.
Qualifications
Certificate or Degree in Nursing Nutrition Health Sciences or a related field with post NYSC experience.
Experience and Skills
Minimum of 3 years experience in humanitarian or development settings with strong field experience. Solid knowledge of nutrition and health interventions. Experience working with government health systems and consortium partners.
Strong stakeholder management skills and participation in coordination meetings. Good understanding of humanitarian systems donors and emergency response best practices. Ability to analyze data plan strategically and make informed decisions. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Fluency in English and at least one major Nigerian language. Willingness to travel frequently and work in challenging environments. Strong commitment to the values and mission of Save the Children.
