JOB SUMMARY
Première Urgence Internationale PUI is recruiting Stabilization Center Medical Doctors to oversee the day-to-day management of Severe Acute Malnutrition SAM and its medical complications at PUI Stabilization Centers.
The Medical Doctor will provide clinical supervision to SC staff, including nurses and nurse assistants, while ensuring that patients receive quality care in line with national and international standards and PUI protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct daily ward rounds and document patient assessments, treatment and procedures.
Supervise the clinical management of patients with Severe Acute Malnutrition and medical complications.
Monitor vital signs, medications, feeding and other aspects of patient care.
Perform emergency procedures, including resuscitation, when required.
Coordinate closely with SC nurses regarding patient progress and respond to urgent patient care needs.
Perform or supervise blood sampling, IV medication administration and other medical procedures.
Ensure timely preparation, provision and monitoring of therapeutic feeding.
Make appropriate decisions regarding admissions, referrals and transfers.
Ensure respectful treatment of patients, caregivers and community members.
TEAM MANAGEMENT
Ensure compliance with PUI rules, procedures and regulations.
Develop and maintain staff schedules, work plans and rotations.
Provide mentoring, capacity building and on-the-job training to SC staff.
Support weekly and monthly implementation planning with the Nutrition PM.
MONITORING AND REPORTING
Ensure proper functioning of the Stabilization Center according to project objectives.
Monitor compliance with national and international treatment protocols.
Monitor daily SC activities and ensure quality implementation.
Collect, compile and analyze SC data.
Prepare weekly and monthly reports and promptly report challenges and progress.
LOGISTICS AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
Coordinate with the Nutrition PM, Logistics Department and Base Pharmacist to ensure adequate supplies.
Ensure proper storage and use of medicines, medical supplies and nutrition commodities.
Support planning and preparation for establishing Stabilization Centers within PHC facilities.
COORDINATION AND REPRESENTATION
Coordinate with PHC facilities and tertiary health facilities on patient referrals and additional support.
Represent PUI at relevant coordination meetings and technical working groups when required.
Maintain collaborative relationships with the Ministry of Health, WHO and other stakeholders.
Coordinate with OTP, IYCF and other health and nutrition teams.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualified and registered Medical Doctor from a recognized university.
Valid practicing license from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria MDCN.
At least 2 years of progressive experience in a similar Stabilization Center physician role.
Good command of English and Hausa.
Knowledge of Kanuri is an advantage.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Understanding of Ministry of Health systems and structures.
Previous experience with CMAM programmes and humanitarian organizations is an advantage.
