JOB OPPORTUNITY: TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE (QUALITY IMPROVEMENT, DATA & INTEGRATED HEALTH SERVICES) – AHFID

Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Work Mode: Hybrid (Minimum 3 days/week on-site with frequent field travel)

The Africa Hub for Innovation and Development (AHFID) is inviting applications for the role of Technical Associate (Quality Improvement, Data & Integrated Health Services) to support ongoing efforts in strengthening data quality, programme performance, and evidence-based decision-making within Nigeria’s health sector.

About the Role

AHFID is currently implementing Routine Data Quality Assessments (RDQAs) as part of a broader initiative to enhance Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Integrated Health Services programmes. The Technical Associate will play a critical, field-oriented role in supporting data validation, programme monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and quality improvement processes across implementing partners and health facilities.

This role is ideal for early- to mid-career public health professionals seeking hands-on experience in health systems strengthening, monitoring and evaluation, and data quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and execution of Routine Data Quality Assessments (RDQAs).
  • Conduct data verification by comparing reported data with source documents.
  • Identify gaps in data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Validate and reconcile programme datasets, ensuring reliability and integrity.
  • Work closely with implementing partners and health facility teams to address data quality issues.
  • Provide on-site technical support and participate in stakeholder engagement sessions.
  • Prepare detailed field reports, technical documentation, and progress updates.
  • Monitor implementation of data quality improvement actions and escalate key risks.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (or near completion) in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Information Management, Biostatistics, Monitoring & Evaluation, or related field.
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience in public health programmes, M&E, or health systems strengthening.
  • Experience supporting RDQAs, DQAs, or similar data quality assessments.
  • Familiarity with SRH, Primary Health Care, or integrated health programmes is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, data validation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and technical report writing abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of DHIS2, KoboToolbox, or similar platforms is an added advantage.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid work structure with at least three days per week on-site in Abuja.
  • Frequent travel to health facilities and programme sites.
  • Close collaboration with AHFID technical teams, partners, and health stakeholders.
