INTERSOS is currently recruiting a Psycho Social Support Officer to support its protection programme in Zamfara State. INTERSOS implements protection interventions to prevent and respond to crises affecting internally displaced persons and host communities. The programme strengthens community-based protection mechanisms and provides direct case management as well as psychosocial support. Furthermore, it facilitates access to essential services including health, education and legal assistance.
Zamfara State has experienced prolonged armed conflict, banditry and inter-communal violence. This has resulted in widespread displacement, loss of livelihoods and weakened social protection systems. Because of this, families and children have been particularly affected by risks such as family separation, child labour, exploitation, gender-based violence and limited access to essential services. The Psycho Social Support Officer will play a key role in addressing these challenges and supporting the wellbeing and resilience of affected individuals and families.
Under the supervision of the Senior Protection Officer, the Psycho Social Support Officer will coordinate with community volunteers to identify psychosocial needs. Then, they will provide appropriate responses. Responsibilities include conducting psychosocial assessments and developing intervention plans. The officer will also facilitate community sensitization activities, supervise community volunteers and provide continuous follow-up support to beneficiaries. Throughout, confidentiality standards must be maintained.
The officer will also coordinate referral pathways with relevant service providers and support service mapping. Additionally, they will facilitate focus group discussions, contribute to programme reporting, ensure proper documentation and safe archiving of case files. The role also involves supporting procurement and distribution of psychosocial materials, monitoring programme activities and maintaining positive relationships with community leaders and stakeholders.
Applicants must possess a Higher National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or a related field. Candidates should have at least 2 to 3 years of experience working with vulnerable children and families in humanitarian or development settings. Preferably, candidates should have worked within the north west region of Nigeria. Fluency in Hausa is required. Also, experience working in Zamfara or similar contexts is an added advantage.
