🔹 About the Role
The Project Officer – Safeguarding will support safeguarding, accountability and community feedback activities under the Faith and Community Initiative (FCI). The successful candidate will help ensure that community-based health activities are implemented safely, respectfully and accountably.
The officer will work closely with CRS programme, MEAL, HR, Risk and Compliance teams, consortium partners, faith-based and community-based organisations, government stakeholders, community members and frontline health workers.
🔹 Key Responsibilities
- Support implementation of CRS safeguarding policies and procedures across FCI activities.
- Receive, document and appropriately refer safeguarding concerns in accordance with approved protocols.
- Maintain confidential safeguarding records, trackers and follow-up documentation.
- Prepare safeguarding updates and reports for management review.
- Support safe, confidential and accessible feedback and complaints mechanisms.
- Ensure communities understand how to report safeguarding concerns and provide feedback.
- Maintain feedback and complaint logs and ensure safeguarding-related cases are promptly referred.
- Review feedback trends and support programme improvement and risk mitigation.
- Support safeguarding and accountability training for staff, partners, volunteers, CHWs and frontline health workers.
- Develop and adapt awareness and training materials on safeguarding, confidentiality and safe reporting.
- Maintain records of training and community sensitisation activities.
- Collaborate with Programme, MEAL, HR, Risk and Compliance and other teams to promote safe programming.
- Support reviews of safeguarding practices at project locations and partner sites.
- Contribute to reports on safeguarding trends, response status and lessons learned.
🎓 Qualifications & Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Law, Counselling or a similar field.
- At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in safeguarding, accountability, protection, MEAL, community engagement, complaints handling or related programme support.
- Experience working with an NGO or humanitarian/development organisation is preferred.
- Working knowledge of safeguarding, accountability, feedback mechanisms and community engagement.
- Strong documentation, data-management and basic report-writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication abilities.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality, discretion and respect for survivor-centred principles.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and a proactive, service-oriented approach.
🗣️ Language Requirements
English: Fluent — required.
Knowledge of Hausa, Pidgin or other relevant Nigerian languages will be an added advantage.
