Vacancy Announcement: Project Assistant

GIZ Nigeria, through the EU Agricultural Value Chain Facility (EU-VACE) project, is recruiting for the position of Project Assistant in Abuja, Nigeria. The role supports international cooperation efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural value chains, promoting rural development, and improving livelihoods through sustainable agribusiness systems.

GIZ Nigeria is a development agency implementing projects on behalf of the German Government, the European Union, and other partners. In Nigeria, it focuses on sustainable economic development, agriculture, employment creation, and resilience building, with a strong emphasis on inclusive and climate-smart approaches.

Position Overview

  • Salary: Based on GIZ Salary Scale (Band 2)

Project Background

The EU-VACE project aims to improve sustainable rural economic development by strengthening agricultural value chains in selected Nigerian states. It supports smallholder farmers, agribusinesses, and rural enterprises to increase productivity, create jobs, and enhance income levels. The project also promotes food security, climate resilience, and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Assistant will provide essential administrative, coordination, and communication support to project teams. Key duties include:

  • Supporting correspondence management, scheduling, and documentation
  • Assisting in preparing contracts, service requests, and travel arrangements
  • Organizing meetings, workshops, and visitor programmes
  • Taking minutes during internal and external meetings
  • Maintaining filing systems, contact databases, and project records
  • Supporting knowledge management and confidential documentation handling
  • Assisting in preparing communication materials and event coordination
  • Welcoming and supporting visitors, partners, and consultants
  • Providing general administrative and logistical support to project staff

Requirements

  • University degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Business Administration, or related field
  • 1–2 years of relevant work experience in project operations
  • Experience in monitoring & evaluation is an advantage
  • Previous experience with GIZ Nigeria is an added advantage
  • Good ICT skills and willingness to learn new systems
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
