About the Project & Role:

WRCI is currently implementing the impactful Hedayah STRIVE Global Programme in Bakori LGA, Katsina State. As part of this vital initiative, we are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Officer. This role is integral to our efforts to address the complex psychosocial needs of individuals and communities affected by various challenges within the project area.

The MHPSS Officer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring MHPSS activities, ensuring the provision of safe, ethical, and effective psychosocial support services. This position requires a deep understanding of mental health principles, trauma-informed care, and approaches to prevent violent extremism.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Develop and implement comprehensive MHPSS strategies and activities aligned with project goals and international best practices.

•  Conduct psychosocial needs assessments and provide direct support, counseling, and referrals to individuals and groups requiring MHPSS assistance.

•  Train and supervise community volunteers or local partners in basic MHPSS principles and service delivery.

•  Integrate MHPSS components into broader project activities, ensuring a holistic approach to community well-being.

•  Promote awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues within the community.

•  Collaborate closely with local stakeholders, including community leaders, government agencies, and other NGOs, to ensure effective coordination and referral pathways.

•  Ensure all MHPSS interventions adhere to ethical guidelines, confidentiality standards, and trauma-informed care principles.

•  Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of MHPSS activities, collecting data and preparing reports for program management and donors.

•  Contribute to the prevention of extremism and violent extremism (P/CVE) through targeted psychosocial interventions.

Key Requirements:

•  Education: A Degree in Psychology or an MSc in Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field.

•  Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of demonstrable experience in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programming, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.

•  Specialized Knowledge: Strong understanding and practical application of trauma-informed care principles and approaches related to preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE).

•  Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and Hausa is essential for effective communication and program delivery.
