Action Against Hunger Nigeria is recruiting a Deputy Programme Manager – Nutrition and Health to support the implementation and oversight of nutrition and health programmes in Sokoto State.

The successful candidate will provide technical support and capacity building to Nutrition and Health Officers, LGA primary healthcare teams and health facility staff, while overseeing nutrition and health activities, community interventions, referrals, coordination and programme quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. NUTRITION AND HEALTH SERVICE MAPPING

Conduct assessments of targeted LGAs and identify gaps within primary healthcare departments and health facilities.

Maintain strong working relationships with LGA authorities, health facilities and relevant representatives.

Coordinate with project teams to ensure data from ACF-supported facilities is submitted to LGA HMIS systems.

Maintain updated stakeholder contact information at state and LGA levels.

Develop and maintain health facility matrices covering service delivery gaps, human resources, supplies, technical capacity, information management and policies.

Support joint planning, review meetings and supportive supervision with state and LGA authorities.

Monitor nutrition and health supply chains and recommend sustainable solutions to identified gaps.

  1. PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Provide technical support and capacity building to local partners implementing the Porridge Mum project.

Support the management of the project cycle and ensure activities comply with donor requirements and ACF standards.

Develop and manage detailed implementation plans and weekly/monthly activity plans.

Support strategies addressing poor health and malnutrition.

Work with SPHCDA and LGA health authorities to promote quality services.

Support community health and nutrition monitoring, including linkages and referrals to primary healthcare services.

Lead assessments, beneficiary identification and implementation of Porridge Mum activities in collaboration with FSL and Nutrition and Health teams.

Support technical assessments, analysis, follow-up and reporting.

Document lessons, good practices and experiences from programme implementation.

  1. TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING

Assess the technical capacity and training needs of health workers and LGA staff.

Develop and propose training plans for health facilities and government teams.

Coordinate training sessions and integrate learning into health workers’ routine activities.

Support the development of training modules and educational materials.

Coordinate joint training sessions with government counterparts.

Monitor partner training teams and assess the quality and effectiveness of training.

Ensure training content aligns with national protocols and standards.

Conduct pre- and post-training assessments to measure knowledge retention.

  1. REPORTING, COORDINATION AND REPRESENTATION

Strengthen state and LGA-level data quality review and use for decision-making.

Maintain and archive training databases for health workers, community health workers and volunteers.

Identify programme progress, gaps and challenges and communicate proposed solutions.

Coordinate regularly with ACF teams, partners and line managers.

Work closely with State Ministry of Health and relevant health agencies.

Support LGA monthly coordination meetings and strengthen coordination mechanisms.

Participate in relevant nutrition and health sector meetings at state and LGA levels.

Represent ACF professionally in meetings with government authorities and other stakeholders.

Build strong partnerships with government institutions and key stakeholders.

Ensure ACF projects align with government priorities and partnership agreements.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Public Health, Nutrition, Health Systems, Health Economics, Health Policy or a related field.

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in primary healthcare systems, CMAM and IYCF.

Strong understanding of health systems strengthening.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in primary healthcare and nutrition services in Nigeria.

Previous coordination-level experience is required.

Ability to build effective working relationships with Ministry of Health personnel, implementing partners, NGOs and INGOs.

Experience developing individual and institutional capacity.

Fluency in English and Hausa.
