The Sahara Centre, a Lagos based independent think tank focused on reframing indigenous knowledge as intelligence for Africa’s development, is seeking talented and exceptional researchers to join its growing team.

The opportunities are fully remote and open to applicants from anywhere in the world.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

Research Assistant

Researcher

LOCATION

Fully Remote

Applicants can apply from anywhere, including outside Lagos and Nigeria.

  1. RESEARCH ASSISTANT

The Research Assistant will support the research team on active projects through literature reviews, data collection, basic data cleaning, documentation and drafting support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct literature reviews and background research.

Support data collection and basic data cleaning.

Draft sections of research outputs for review.

Maintain organised research records and documentation.

Track sources and citations accurately.

Participate virtually in relevant Centre programmes and activities.

Attend virtual check ins with the assigned project lead and implement feedback.

QUALIFICATIONS

Recently completed Master’s degree or currently enrolled in PhD candidacy in a relevant field.

Strong candidates with a First Class or Second Class Upper Bachelor’s degree may also be considered.

Prior research experience through coursework, thesis work or an internship with a development focused organisation is an advantage.

Demonstrated writing or research output showing analytical ability.

Basic knowledge of research methods and source evaluation.

Strong interest in indigenous knowledge, African development and related intellectual themes.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fully remote environment.

Reliable internet access and ability to participate in virtual meetings during Lagos working hours.

PLACEMENT DURATION

Three months or six months fixed term, depending on the specific research project.
