Oxfam has announced an opportunity for qualified and experienced professionals to join its Nigeria team as a Project Officer. This role is part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to addressing poverty, inequality, and social injustice through sustainable development and humanitarian interventions.
The position is based in Biu under a fixed-term contract of six months, with a full-time work schedule of 40 hours per week. The successful candidate will report to the Project Coordinator and earn an annual gross salary of ₦8,016,695 (Grade Level D1). The expected start date is June 1, 2026, while the application deadline is May 16, 2026.
The Project Officer will play a central role in implementing a key initiative focused on strengthening social cohesion and inclusive community development across selected LGAs in Adamawa State and Borno State. The project aims to enhance resilience, participatory planning, and inclusive governance within targeted communities.
Key responsibilities include coordinating project activities at the LGA level, supporting community development planning processes, and strengthening governance structures such as LGDCCs, WDCCs, and WDSCs. The role also involves engaging stakeholders, facilitating capacity-building initiatives, promoting transparency and citizen participation, and ensuring effective collaboration with local authorities and partners.
Additionally, the Project Officer will integrate cross-cutting themes such as gender equality, inclusion, safeguarding, and conflict sensitivity into all project activities. Monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) functions are also critical, requiring the candidate to track progress, support data collection, and contribute to evidence-based reporting and organizational learning.
Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in social sciences or a related field, with a minimum of four years of relevant experience in community development or social cohesion. Strong communication, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills are essential. Familiarity with the local context and languages of Adamawa and Borno States is an added advantage.
