About the Role

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is recruiting an Associate Humanitarian Financing Officer to support its Humanitarian Financing Unit in Nigeria. This position is open to Nigerian nationals only and is based in Maiduguri.

UNOCHA plays a central role in coordinating humanitarian responses, ensuring effective collaboration among partners, and mobilizing resources to address emergencies. The selected candidate will contribute to managing Country-Based Pooled Funds (CBPF), which provide critical funding to humanitarian actors responding to crises.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support financial and project management processes, including:

1. Financial Strategy & Project Oversight

  • Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Reviewing project budgets and applications for compliance
  • Providing guidance to partners on humanitarian financing procedures
  • Conducting market cost surveys

2. Project Financial Management

  • Reviewing project budgets and expenditure patterns
  • Assessing and recommending project amendments and revisions

3. Financial Control & Reporting

  • Tracking and reviewing financial reports from partner organizations
  • Coordinating audits and ensuring compliance with guidelines
  • Maintaining financial databases for cost-effectiveness analysis
  • Preparing financial and performance reports
  • Reconciling field and headquarters data

4. Knowledge Sharing & Coordination

  • Supporting monitoring and evaluation visits
  • Conducting partner financial and administrative visits
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and sharing information across teams
  • Performing additional duties as assigned

Eligibility Requirements

Education:

  • Master’s degree (2 years’ experience required), OR
  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum 4 years’ experience required)
    Fields include: Project Management, Development Studies, International Relations, Public Administration, Economics, Accounting, or related disciplines

Experience:

  • Relevant experience in grant/programme management, humanitarian financing, donor relations, monitoring & evaluation, or financial administration
  • Experience in humanitarian financing and grant management is required
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) is desirable
  • Experience with UN agencies or international NGOs is an advantage

Languages:

  • Fluency in English (required)
  • Knowledge of another UN official language (desirable)
