Background
Concern for Women and Children Development Foundation (COWACDI) is a woman- led organization born out of passion for the wellbeing of Women and Children in Nigeria. It has a special interest in mitigating the suffering of the vulnerable persons (mostly Women & Children) in times of crisis. Currently the organization has focused its attention on the Northeast of Nigeria with special emphasis in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states (BAY states) due to the decade old crises. COWACDI intervenes through community-based approach in addressing humanitarian and development needs since its establishment in 1998, these include in Protection, Peace Building, Housing Land & Property (HLP), Non- food Items (NFI), Livelihood, WASH, Nutrition, Livelihood, amongst others. These interventions have directly benefited thousands of children, women, men, girls and boys of all groups. Determined to expand her interventions to reach more vulnerable people in conflict affected regions. COWACDI operates with full respect to humanitarian laws, concrete policies and principles of international standard such as humanity, Do no harm, impartiality, neutrality, independency and accountability to affected population and zero Tolerance to Fraud and related activities.

Roles/Responsibilities
The MEAL/Communications Assistant plays a pivotal role in overseeing and executing monitoring, evaluation, and Complaint and Feedback mechanism activities for the project. Directly Reporting to the MEAL/COMMS Supervisor with Indirect Report to the Head of programs, the MEAL/COMMS Assistant is responsible for implementing and managing MEAL/COMMS strategies and contributing to the development and operationalization of the project’s MEAL/COMMS system. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of MEAL/COMMS concepts, qualitative and quantitative techniques, data analysis, reporting, and training.
- Support the M&E Staff in implementing Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL/COMMS) activities
- Assist in developing and using data collection tools such as KoboToolbox.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor project activities and gather feedback from beneficiaries.
- Assist in drafting content for reports, success stories, case studies, newsletters, and donor updates
- Support documentation of project activities (field reports, photos, human-interest stories)
- Edit and proofread communication materials for clarity, accuracy, and consistency
- Support management of social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Assist in creating basic graphics, captions, and posts aligned with organizational branding
- Help update the organization’s website and online platforms.
- Support implementation of visibility guidelines for donor-funded projects
- Assist in designing banners, flyers, IEC materials, and other communication tools
- Ensure correct use of logos, templates, and branding materials
- Work closely with Program, MEAL, and Protection teams to capture impact stories
- Support organization of events, campaigns, and advocacy activities
- Perform any other communication-related duties assigned by the supervisor
- Support the design and use of monitoring checklists and reporting templates.
- Help track project indicators and ensure data quality and completeness.
- Support the Community Feedback Mechanism (CFM) by recording, categorizing, and reporting feedback and complaints.
- Work with programme teams to ensure timely follow-up and response to community feedback.
- Participate in baseline, midline, and endline surveys, and other assessments.
- Support learning and reflection sessions with project teams and communities.
- Promote the use of MEAL/COMMS findings to improve project design and implementation.
- Ensure all data collection and sharing respect, confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Work closely with field staff and partners to strengthen accountability and learning systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the M&E Officer or Manager.
- Treat all beneficiaries with respect and dignity, and apply COWACDI’s PSEA, Code of Conduct, and Safeguarding policy.
- Communicate project goals and activities in a clear and culturally appropriate way.
Tasks:
- Interpret Results Framework, MEAL/COMMS Framework, and Indicator Performance Tracking Table (IPTT).
- Contribute to project design by determining activities, processes, outputs, outcomes, and impact.
- Collaborate with the MEAL/COMMS staff to identify and detail key monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Work with the MEAL/COMMS staff to develop appropriate reporting and planning tools that enhance program efficiency/effectiveness.
- facilitate the training of field staff in data gathering and compilation techniques.
Other tasks:
Data Management, Analysis, and Reporting:
- Proficiently manage electronic and manual data entry processes as well as the organization of data in Microsoft Excel.
- Manage project participants’ data ensuring compliance with all ethical standards and data protection policies.
- Conduct thorough quantitative analysis using intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including central tendency and measures of spread.
- Skillfully create narrative reports, utilize tables and graphs to create visually impressive dashboards, and provide data-driven insights to MACI management and stakeholders.
- Prepare and provide timely reports that meet donor’s information requirements. Data Quality Assessment
- Implement robust data quality assessment protocols for all data collection activities.
- Regularly monitor and verify data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Collaborate with field staff to address data discrepancies and inconsistencies promptly.
- Develop and maintain data quality assurance plans to uphold high standards across projects.
- Provide recommendations and actions for improving data quality based on assessment findings. Accountability:
- Utilize participatory approaches to identify beneficiary-preferred feedback mechanisms, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
- Design and implement robust Complaints and Feedback Systems to engage beneficiaries and stakeholders in providing input and addressing concerns.
- Establish channels for both downward and upward accountability, fostering transparency and responsiveness.
- Analyze and synthesize feedback collected from participants to inform strategic decision-making and program enhancements.
- Continuously assess and improve the effectiveness of the Complaints and Feedback Systems to enhance accountability and beneficiary satisfaction.
Learning:
- Plan, organize, and facilitate key program learning events to capture insights and promote continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective documentation of lessons learned and best practices from project activities.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to disseminate program learning outcomes and recommendations.
- Track and analyze the Issues Log register, addressing challenges and recommending solutions.
- Monitor and update the Risk Register, proactively identifying potential risks and assisting in mitigation strategies.
- Any other activities assigned by the Line manager.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Strong analytical and data management skills.
- Proficiency in M&E tools, software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, Tableau).
- Excellent report writing and communication abilities.
- Understanding of project management and implementation.
- Knowledge of statistical and qualitative analysis methods.
- Ability to develop and interpret indicators and surveys.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to speak and understand the local language(s) is essential.
- Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds.
- Basic understanding of child protection, gender, and social inclusion principles (an added advantage).

Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Development Studies, Social Sciences, Economics, Statistics, Public Health, or related disciplines.
- At least 1-2 years of experience In Monitoring and Evaluation. (Additional certifications in M&E (like PMP, Logical Frameworks, or specific M&E courses) can boost skills and marketability.)
- Experience working in Borno State and familiarity with community structures.
- Must understand humanitarian principles, safeguarding, and confidentiality.
- Must be residing in Maiduguri.
Language required:
Fluency in oral and written English and Hausa is required.
