The Mastercard Foundation Associates Program
The Mastercard Foundation Associates Program offers a practical pathway for young Africans to gain meaningful work experience and transition into the labor market. At a time when academic qualifications are increasingly common, this initiative focuses on what employers value most which is real world experience.
Since 2023, the program has supported over 1000 Associates across 22 African countries. It is designed to equip participants with the skills, exposure, and professional networks needed to build sustainable careers.
The program provides a 12 month internship placement with partner organizations across various sectors. Participants gain hands on work experience while developing leadership, employability, and entrepreneurship skills. In addition, Associates benefit from structured mentorship, access to professional networks, and a monthly stipend throughout the internship period. Career transition support is also provided to help participants move into long term employment or entrepreneurial pathways after completion.
The program is open to young people aged 18 to 35 across Africa who are seeking early career opportunities. Eligible applicants include recent graduates with 0 to 2 years of work experience, Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program alumni, and alumni of other Mastercard Foundation programs. The program is inclusive and welcomes applications from young women, persons with disabilities, refugees, and internally displaced persons.
Recruitment is ongoing and applications can be submitted based on available roles in different countries or through remote opportunities.
