Malaria Consortium is a globally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention, control, and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases, particularly among vulnerable and underserved populations. With a growing focus on integrated health interventions, the organization also supports child health and neglected tropical disease programs to maximize impact.

The organization is currently recruiting a Technical Specialist (TS) to join its team in Abuja, Nigeria, on a full-time basis.

📌 Job Overview

The Technical Specialist will play a strategic role in providing technical leadership, program oversight, and capacity development support for malaria interventions, particularly Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC). The role involves working closely with the Programme Director and technical teams to ensure high-quality implementation of interventions across national, state, and community levels.

The position is critical to achieving both organizational targets and Nigeria’s national malaria control goals.

🔍 Key Responsibilities

Technical Contributions (70%)

The Technical Specialist will support the development of technical workplans, monitor program quality, and ensure adherence to global and national malaria guidelines. Responsibilities include strengthening state-level capacity, supervising implementation of malaria prevention strategies such as ITN distribution and IPTp, and ensuring quality assurance across interventions.

The role also involves documenting innovations, supporting technical reporting, and representing the organization in national technical working groups and health coordination platforms.

Project Management (20%)

The candidate will contribute to project reporting, including quarterly updates and donor submissions, while supporting learning, documentation, and sustainability planning. The Technical Specialist will also assist in tracking implementation progress and ensuring timely delivery of project outputs.

Representation (10%)

The role requires representing the organization in national committees, expert groups, and global technical communities, while engaging stakeholders and partners to strengthen program outcomes.

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

  • Degree in Medicine with a Master’s in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Policy, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience, including national-level program oversight
  • Experience working with government and stakeholders in public health programs
  • Strong knowledge of malaria control strategies and health systems
  • Excellent project management, monitoring & evaluation, and reporting skills
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities
  • Experience with donor-funded programs (e.g., GF or GAVI) is an added advantage
