The Role
MSI Nigeria is seeking passionate and detail-oriented Translators to provide critical support to research activities. This is a consultancy-based, as-needed role. Selected candidates will work under the guidance of the Strategic Research and Learning Unit to ensure that research instruments and findings are accessible and culturally relevant across diverse Nigerian communities.
Key Responsibilities
• Document Translation: Translate research documents and instruments (e.g., Discussion Guides, Questionnaires) from English into local languages (Hausa, Yoruba, etc.) and vice versa.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure all translated texts accurately convey the original meaning, tone, and technical nuances.
• Proofreading & Editing: Review translated materials for grammar, spelling, punctuation accuracy, and maintain original formatting (font and structure).
• Field Support: Support the pre-testing of translated content with clients to ensure the language meets their needs and understanding.
• Reporting: Submit finalized versions of assignments within agreed-upon timelines.
Candidate Requirements
Education & Experience:
• Education: First degree (B.Sc./B.A./HND) in Translation, Linguistics, or any relevant discipline.
• Certification: Additional certification in Linguistics is considered an advantage.
• Experience: Proven work experience as a Translator, Interpreter, or in a similar linguistic role.
• Language Proficiency: Absolute fluency in English and at least one major Nigerian language (e.g., Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, etc.).
Skills & Competencies:
• Technical: Must possess a personal computer and demonstrate excellent proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
• Typing: High computer typing speed and accuracy are essential.
• Detail-Oriented: Exceptional proofreading skills with an eye for identifying grammatical and punctuation errors.
• Values Alignment: Must be pro-choice and committed to the mission of MSI Reproductive Choices.
• Professionalism: Strong time management skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
