Yiaga Africa is a civic organization committed to promoting democratic governance human rights and civic participation. Through its Watching The Vote project the organization supports credible elections by deploying citizen led election observation across Nigeria.
Position Summary
The State Focal Person serves as the lead representative of Yiaga Africa at the state level during the election cycle. The role involves coordinating election observation activities managing volunteers and maintaining communication between the organization and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Observer Management
The State Focal Person recruits and supervises Local Government Area Supervisors and Polling Unit Observers within assigned locations. The role ensures that all observers participate in pre election and Election Day activities and submit reports as required. The position also facilitates observer accreditation with INEC.
Training
The role supports and conducts training sessions and workshops for observers and supervisors. The State Focal Person assists with logistical planning and preparation for all training activities.
Reporting and Communication
The State Focal Person maintains regular communication with the Zonal Program Officer and the Watching The Vote team. The role includes documenting insights best practices and lessons learned throughout the project.
Stakeholder Engagement
The role represents Yiaga Africa at the state level and engages with stakeholders including INEC civil society organizations media and security agencies. The State Focal Person promotes the Watching The Vote initiative across the state.
Logistics and Administration
The State Focal Person manages project funds and resources in line with organizational procedures. The role oversees logistics for trainings workshops and stakeholder engagement activities.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor degree in Social Sciences Law Political Science or a related field. Applicants should have proven experience in civic engagement election observation or project management. Candidates must be non partisan and demonstrate strong leadership organizational and communication skills. The role requires the ability to meet deadlines coordinate activities effectively and engage with diverse stakeholders. Applicants must reside in the state of application.
