Save the Children Recruiting in Borno
The Save the Children is currently recruiting for the position of Driver in Borno State. The role is part of the organization’s ongoing humanitarian operations aimed at improving the lives and wellbeing of children and families in conflict-affected and vulnerable communities.
This position plays a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of staff, visitors, documents, and goods in line with organizational policies and safety standards. The Driver will be responsible for supporting field operations by providing reliable mobility services, including during emergency response situations where humanitarian assistance may be required.
Core duties include operating Save the Children vehicles safely, ensuring timely pick-up and delivery of personnel and materials, and maintaining vehicles in excellent mechanical condition. The role requires regular vehicle inspections, including checks on oil levels, brakes, water, and other essential components before each trip. The Driver is also expected to keep accurate mileage and log records and submit monthly reports as required.
Additional responsibilities include ensuring all vehicle documentation such as insurance and road licenses are valid, maintaining essential safety equipment in vehicles (e.g., spare wheel, first aid kit, fire extinguisher), and reporting any mechanical issues promptly to the Fleet Assistant. The Driver must also strictly adhere to traffic regulations and organizational safety guidelines.
Applicants must possess a minimum of O’Level qualification with an NCE certificate, a valid driving license (Classes B, C, and D held for at least three years), and at least three years of relevant driving experience, preferably with an international NGO. Strong communication skills in English and Hausa are required, along with basic IT literacy and familiarity with field routes and operational areas.
