MEAL Officer – Terre des hommes Foundation (Borno & Nasarawa, Nigeria)

Terre des hommes (Tdh), a leading Swiss child relief organization, is recruiting a qualified Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer to support its humanitarian and development programmes in Nigeria. With over 50 years of experience, Tdh is dedicated to protecting children’s rights and improving their lives regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation.

Position Summary

The MEAL Officer will work under the supervision of the MEAL Manager to provide technical and methodological support across programmes. The role ensures the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of MEAL systems, tools, and processes. The officer will also oversee the Complaints Feedback and Response Mechanism (CFRM), ensuring structured and transparent feedback channels, proper documentation, and timely response to complaints.

The position contributes to strengthening data quality, knowledge sharing, and evidence-based decision-making while promoting accountability and learning within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead field-level implementation of MEAL systems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Operationalize reporting matrices and data management plans for accurate and timely data flow.
  • Design, deploy, and manage data collection tools (Kobo/ODK, FGD/KII guides).
  • Manage and strengthen CFRM systems, ensuring accessibility and timely resolution of complaints.
  • Facilitate learning sessions and reflection meetings to improve programme performance.
  • Ensure ethical standards, including confidentiality, informed consent, and child protection principles.
  • Support data analysis, reporting (including 5Ws), and information management systems.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning.
  • Support the Design, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health, M&E, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years relevant experience in MEAL within NGOs or humanitarian settings.
  • Strong experience in M&E frameworks, surveys (baseline, midline, endline), and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in data collection tools and information management systems.
  • Experience in Child Protection, WASH, Health, Nutrition, or emergency response is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of project cycle management and participatory approaches.
  • Master’s degree or professional certification in M&E, Project Management, or Data Analysis is an added advantage.
