Mercy corps recruiting for WASH Assistant

Mercy Corps is inviting applications for the position of WASH Assistant to support its humanitarian programmes in Borno State. Positions are available across Konduga, Jere, Ngala, and Kala Balge.

Mercy Corps is a global organization working in over 40 countries to help communities respond to crisis and build long term resilience. In Nigeria, its interventions focus on humanitarian response, economic development, and community strengthening.

The WASH Assistant will support the implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene activities, particularly the community based or “software” components of WASH programming. The role involves engaging beneficiaries to form water user committees, managing hygiene promotion activities, and supporting community hygiene promoters through training and supervision. The successful candidate will also assist in distributing information materials, monitoring hygiene practices, and maintaining detailed records and reports on field activities, including chlorination and water quality checks.

Applicants must possess a BSc or HND in Public Health, Biochemistry, Community Health, or related fields, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in WASH programming. Experience in training hygiene promoters, establishing WASH committees, and working with community structures is essential. Strong communication, teamwork, and computer skills are required, along with fluency in English and Hausa or other local languages.

This role requires a proactive and adaptable individual capable of working in challenging environments while maintaining strong community relationships and accountability standards.
