New Incentives is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives in developing countries through health-focused conditional cash transfer programs. In Nigeria, the organization supports pregnant women with at-risk pregnancies by providing financial incentives that encourage adherence to medical care, helping ensure healthier outcomes for mothers and newborns.
Position Overview
The Safety & Security Officer (S&SO) will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of staff, operations, and program activities across all operational locations. The role involves monitoring security risks, conducting assessments, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and supporting informed decision-making through timely security updates.
The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of responding effectively to evolving security conditions in a dynamic humanitarian environment.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Communication & Coordination
• Maintain regular communication with Field Managers and Field Officers.
• Contact high- and medium-risk clinics regularly to obtain security updates.
• Confirm that Field Officers receive and understand security advisories.
• Prioritize outreach to high-risk areas, particularly clinics in Katsina and Zamfara, ensuring at least twice-weekly contact.
Incident Reporting & Monitoring
• Verify and document all reported security incidents.
• Compile and escalate special incident reports to the Security Manager as needed.
Security Risk Management
• Conduct security assessments and context analysis across operational areas.
• Monitor evolving security situations and provide timely updates.
• Support safe implementation of program activities through risk mitigation strategies.
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar NGO or humanitarian security role.
• Background in security forces (military or paramilitary) is an advantage but not mandatory.
• Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
• Proven ability to work in fast-paced and high-pressure environments.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines.
• High attention to detail and problem-solving mindset.
• Cultural awareness and ability to work in diverse environments.
• Adaptability to changing operational contexts.
• Proficiency in English and Hausa (written and spoken); additional local dialects are an advantage.
• Strong ICT skills, including MS Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and mobile tools.
Other Requirements
• Willingness to conduct frequent field visits, including on short notice.
• Must be willing to reside in Katsina State upon employment.
• Passion for humanitarian work and reducing infant mortality.
