The International Committee of the Red Cross is inviting applications for the position of Child Protection Specialist. The position is based in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria.

The International Committee of the Red Cross works globally to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by armed conflict and violence. As an independent and neutral humanitarian organization mandated by the Geneva Conventions of 1949, the ICRC promotes respect for international humanitarian law. Additionally, it responds to emergencies and supports affected communities.

The Child Protection Specialist will contribute to strengthening child protection within the Nigeria Delegation’s strategies and programmes. The role involves supporting protection teams and other departments in identifying and addressing child protection concerns. The specialist will also ensure coordination with prevention and assistance activities. Furthermore, the specialist will support protection analysis and documentation of child protection issues related to the ongoing non-international armed conflict in North East Nigeria.

Key responsibilities include coordinating responses for complex child protection cases and supporting field-level focus group discussions with children. The role also involves contributing to community-based child protection projects such as those implemented in Bama. The specialist will compile reports and analyses on child protection interventions and monitor trends affecting children across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States. Furthermore, the role involves identifying training needs, supporting internal capacity building, and representing the ICRC in engagements with communities, authorities, and humanitarian stakeholders.

Applicants must possess a university degree in law, humanities, social sciences, or a related field. They must have at least five years of professional experience and three to four years in protection or a related area. At least one year of direct experience in child protection is required. Fluency in English, Hausa, and Kanuri is essential. Prior experience within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is an advantage.

The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Protection Coordinator and will be based in Maiduguri, Borno State.
