Position: Field Assistant — Data Collection (short-term) 

Locations: Selected Local Government Areas in Delta, Ekiti, Gombe, Imo, Kaduna, Katsina and Plateau States 

Type: Full-time (5 days; possible extension)

Role overview 

Mal-Weng Nig. Ltd. is recruiting qualified Field Assistants to serve as independent verification agents for the Nigeria Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (NG-SURWASH) program. Field Assistants will carry out rigorous, high-quality data collection to validate program outputs and disbursement-linked indicators across target communities, facilities and schools.

Key responsibilities

– Conduct household surveys and facility assessments using mobile/digital data collection platforms. 

– Administer structured questionnaires and gather information from beneficiaries, communities, schools and health facilities. 

– Support focus group discussions and key informant interviews as required. 

– Ensure data quality, accuracy and ethical standards during fieldwork. 

– Coordinate logistics and schedules with supervisors and team leads. 

– Produce comprehensive field notes and promptly report challenges to supervisors.

Minimum qualifications and skills

– OND, NCE, HND or Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics, public health or related discipline (Bachelor’s preferred). 

– At least 2 years’ experience in field data collection; prior WASH-sector experience is an advantage. 

– Proficiency with mobile data collection tools and basic digital literacy. 

– Strong communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in English and at least one relevant local language. 

– Ability to work in rural and challenging environments with attention to detail.

Duration and remuneration 

– Short-term assignment (5 days). Extension possible based on program needs. 

– Remuneration and field allowances will be communicated to shortlisted candidates.
