About the Role

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja is recruiting an Agricultural Specialist to work with the
Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), part of the
U.S. Department of Agriculture.

This is an entry-level specialist role focused on agricultural research, trade analysis, and policy support. The position plays a key role in strengthening agricultural trade relations and providing insights for U.S. stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and prepare reports on:
    • Agricultural commodities
    • Trade policies
    • Market opportunities
  • Provide intelligence and recommendations to stakeholders
  • Support U.S. agricultural interests through project implementation
  • Identify and help resolve agricultural trade challenges
  • Build and maintain relationships with:
    • Government officials
    • Industry stakeholders
    • Policy influencers
  • Monitor developments in Nigeria’s agricultural sector and policy environment

Eligibility Requirements

Option 1

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Agricultural Economics
    • Agriculture / Agribusiness
    • Food & Agricultural Marketing
    • International Trade
  • Minimum 3 years experience in:
    • Agricultural economics
    • Policy analysis
    • Commodity trade or marketing research
  • Must include strong report writing and analytical work

Option 2

  • Minimum 2 years of university education (any field)
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in:
    • Agricultural economics
    • Policy
    • Trade or market analysis
  • Must demonstrate strong analytical and reporting experience

Additional Requirements

Certification

  • NYSC Certificate / Exemption / Exclusion required

Language

  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Working knowledge of French

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Nigeria’s agricultural systems and markets
    • Government structures and policy processes
    • Trade and agricultural policy frameworks
    • Supply and demand economics
    • International agricultural agreements
