ABOUT CASFOD

The Unique Care and Support Foundation (CASFOD) is a national non-governmental organization committed to protecting the rights of women and children. Operating within the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus in Nigeria, CASFOD works to empower vulnerable and remote communities to create sustainable opportunities for themselves.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

In partnership with Plan, CASFOD is implementing an ECHO HIP project in Rann, Kala Balge and Damboa LGAs of Borno State. The project aims to strengthen community resilience by improving equitable access to inclusive, quality education and protection services for vulnerable children and young people in schools and communities.

1. EDUCATION ASSISTANT

Location: Damboa LGA, Borno State
Reports to: Education Officer

ROLE SUMMARY

The Education Assistant will support the Education team in implementing school enrolment and retention activities, back-to-learning campaigns, community engagement and accountability mechanisms. The role also involves working with School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), teachers, parents and community leaders to improve access to education for out-of-school children.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the implementation of education activities in line with project proposals, strategies and donor requirements.

Contribute to baseline, midline, endline, needs and market assessments.

Collect monitoring data, track project indicators and maintain accurate documentation and reports.

Engage communities and community leaders to promote participation, acceptance and the Do No Harm principle.

Support teacher supervision, training and capacity development.

Assist with youth and adolescent programming, including life skills, basic literacy, numeracy and alternative or accelerated education.

Support the identification of training needs and the delivery of training for teachers, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and SBMCs.

Facilitate the recruitment of volunteer teachers and learning facilitators.

Contribute to project proposals and strategy development by identifying education needs and gaps.

Maintain communication with partners and stakeholders at community, LGEA and state levels.

Monitor project results and document case studies, lessons learned, best practices and significant changes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Education or a related field.

At least 2 years of experience in programme implementation.

Experience working on Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) and Accelerated Basic Education Programme (ABEP) for out-of-school children (OOSC).

Strong analytical, strategic planning, coordination and organizational skills.

Excellent documentation, reporting and computer skills.

Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation and coaching skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Fluency in English and relevant local languages, including Hausa or Fulfulde.

Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas with limited infrastructure.

2. PROTECTION ASSISTANT

Location: Kala Balge LGA, Borno State
Reports to: Protection Coordinator

ROLE SUMMARY

The Protection Assistant will support child protection, school safety, psychosocial support, safeguarding and referral activities under the ECHO project. The role involves working directly with children, caregivers, schools and community structures to promote safe, inclusive and dignified learning environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct child protection and school safety assessments to identify risks affecting children, particularly adolescent girls, children with disabilities and other vulnerable learners.

Monitor protection concerns and identify children at risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation, child labour, early marriage and other forms of violence.

Facilitate safe, timely and confidential referrals to appropriate child protection, health, gender-based violence (GBV) and psychosocial support services.

Follow up on referred cases in coordination with relevant service providers while protecting children’s dignity and confidentiality.

Engage parents, caregivers, local authorities, Child Protection Focal Points and SBMCs to promote child protection and safer learning environments.

Support inclusive activities that address barriers to education and protection services for girls, boys and children with disabilities.

Strengthen the capacity of school Child Protection Focal Points to identify concerns, provide basic psychosocial support and refer children requiring specialized services.

Facilitate psychosocial support activities, including group sessions, storytelling, recreational activities and life skills sessions.

Support accessible, child-friendly and confidential Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms (CFM).

Assist schools in developing and implementing safety plans, assessing risks and identifying unsafe routes.

Coordinate with humanitarian partners, protection working groups and other stakeholders to strengthen referral pathways and responses to emerging protection risks.

Support training for teachers and community structures on child protection, GBV, safeguarding, PSHEA, positive discipline and referral pathways.

Prepare accurate activity reports, referral updates, assessment findings and monitoring data while ensuring sensitive information is securely managed.

Perform other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or HND in Social Work, Law, Psychology, Sociology, International Development, Human Rights or a related social science field.

Alternatively, a relevant diploma combined with substantial direct field experience in humanitarian protection, child protection or GBV programming.

At least 1–3 years of practical experience in humanitarian protection, community-based protection, GBV response or child protection in emergency settings.

Demonstrated experience in protection monitoring, vulnerability assessments, referral tracking and case management intake.

Experience conducting community awareness sessions, facilitating Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and supporting Protection Action Committees (PACs).

Experience working with local authorities, community leaders and protection partners on referral pathways.
