Applications are now open for the Women’s Fellowship on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (HMCCC)—a fully funded regional leadership programme designed to empower young women across West Africa to lead solutions at the intersection of climate change, migration, and gender equality.
The fellowship is funded by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), co-financed by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), and commissioned by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

🌍 About the Fellowship
The HMCCC Fellowship is a 6-month hybrid programme (July – December 2026) aimed at strengthening women’s leadership in climate mobility policy, community action, and regional collaboration across the ECOWAS region.
It is implemented by the Women Environmental Programme (WEP) under the GIZ-led Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change initiative.

🎯 Objectives
The fellowship seeks to:
- Strengthen women’s leadership in climate mobility governance
- Build capacity for gender-responsive climate and migration solutions
- Support community-based pilot projects addressing climate displacement
- Promote regional collaboration and knowledge exchange
- Increase women’s participation in global climate and policy dialogues

🧩 Fellowship Structure
Phase 1: Training & Capacity Building
- Fully funded workshop covering climate mobility, gender policy, advocacy, and leadership
- Delivered by regional experts with bilingual (English/French) support
Phase 2: Mentorship & Project Implementation
- One-on-one mentorship with experienced professionals
- Monthly coaching and technical guidance
- Grant funding of $500–$1,000 for pilot projects
Examples of projects include:
- Climate mobility research
- Community resilience initiatives
- Advocacy and awareness campaigns
- Livelihood and empowerment programs
Phase 3: Regional & Global Exposure
- Opportunity to attend international events on climate, migration, and gender
- Networking, policy engagement, and presentation opportunities

Applicants must be from ECOWAS member states, including:
- Anglophone: Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia
- Francophone: Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Senegal, Togo
- Lusophone: Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau

Applicants must:
- Be female, aged 18–35 years
- Have leadership experience in climate action, migration, gender advocacy, or related fields
- Be actively involved in community, research, or policy initiatives
- Have a project idea related to climate-induced human mobility
- Be committed to collaboration and full participation
- Possess strong communication and teamwork skills
