Overview
The U.S. Consulate General Lagos is recruiting a qualified and experienced candidate for the position of Visa Assistant (Team Lead) within the Consular Section.
The successful candidate will supervise a team responsible for processing both immigrant and non-immigrant visa applications while ensuring compliance with U.S. immigration laws and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and monitor a team of 6–8 locally employed staff
- Oversee processing of immigrant and non-immigrant visa applications
- Handle complex or sensitive visa cases and escalate when necessary
- Lead one of four rotating Visa Unit teams
- Ensure compliance with U.S. immigration regulations and internal procedures
- Maintain high standards of confidentiality and integrity
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Business Administration
- International Relations
- Law
- English / Humanities or related field
- NYSC Certificate or Exemption Letter required
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience
- Experience applying regulatory policies and working with the public
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of U.S. immigration laws and visa procedures
- Familiarity with visa processing systems (NIV & IV programs)
- Ability to interpret policies and explain procedures clearly
Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (Level IV English)
- Fluency in at least one Nigerian language (Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa)
- Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive situations
- High level of professionalism and confidentiality
