Project Overview

Ikore is implementing a one year project in Kaduna and Adamawa States focused on strengthening livestock vaccine markets, improving last mile delivery, enhancing veterinary service systems and supporting commercially viable access to quality assured livestock vaccines for smallholder livestock producers.

The project aims to achieve a 40 percent improvement in vaccination coverage within one year across at least three diseases including Peste des Petits Ruminants, Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia and Lumpy Skin Disease in selected areas.

Role Summary

The Field Officer will lead day to day implementation of the livestock vaccine market strengthening project at the Local Government Area level. The role involves coordinating community engagement, supporting vaccination campaigns, strengthening last mile veterinary service delivery, supervising field actors and ensuring accurate data reporting. The Field Officer will work closely with community leaders, agrovets, paravets, community animal health workers and commercial partners to improve vaccine access and uptake and contribute to the project target of a 40 percent improvement in vaccination rates.

Key Responsibilities

Field Implementation and Support

Coordinate field level activities within the assigned Local Government Area

Develop community level implementation plans aligned with project objectives

Provide regular field updates and reports to the State Lead

Stakeholder Engagement and Local Coordination

Engage community leaders, livestock associations, agrovets, paravets and community animal health workers

Lead onboarding of agrovets and support formation or strengthening of livestock cooperatives

Support Local Government Area level advocacy and vaccination activation campaigns

Facilitate partnerships between commercial partners, distributors and selected agrovets

Last Mile Veterinary Service Delivery

Identify priority communities for vaccination campaigns

Supervise service delivery agents and support disease surveillance activities

Monitor vaccination activities and ensure timely submission of vaccination records

Provide weekly updates on vaccination progress

Technology and Farmer Engagement

Train field actors on digital reporting tools

Support farmer onboarding onto project technology platforms

Monitor deployment and effective use of mobile reporting systems

Monitoring and Evaluation

Ensure monthly delivery of vaccination records by agrovets and field actors

Supervise enumerators and support baseline and field assessments

Ensure accurate collection, verification and submission of field data

Track vaccination coverage, agrovet performance and community engagement indicators

Communication and Documentation

Document and archive field activities, reports and engagement records

Support visibility and impact documentation as required

Skills and Competencies

Strong field coordination and community mobilisation skills

Good understanding of livestock systems and rural veterinary service delivery

Ability to engage traditional leaders, farmer groups and private sector actors

Basic data collection, verification and reporting skills

Familiarity with digital data tools such as Kobo or ODK is an advantage

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Hausa language proficiency required

Ability to work independently in rural and security sensitive environments

High level of integrity, accountability and adaptability

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Agricultural Extension, Livestock Production or a related field

Two to three years of field level experience in livestock, agriculture or rural development projects

Experience supporting vaccination campaigns or animal health interventions is highly desirable

Experience working with agrovets, community animal health workers, paravets or livestock cooperatives is an advantage

Previous work experience in Kaduna or Adamawa State is preferred

Eligibility

Candidates must reside in the selected Local Government Areas in Kaduna State or Adamawa State

Applicants must demonstrate understanding of local livestock systems, community dynamics and key stakeholders within the Local Government Area
