Research Interviewers (36 States + FCT) at Jhpiego
Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the role of Research Interviewers/Data Collectors across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). With a longstanding commitment to advancing research, education, and global health systems, Jhpiego continues to play a vital role in strengthening healthcare delivery and improving outcomes in underserved communities.
This recruitment is part of the C19RM Impact Evaluation project, which aims to assess the outcomes and overall impact of COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM) investments. The organization seeks professionals who can contribute to the generation of reliable, high-quality primary data that will inform health systems strengthening and policy decisions.
The selected candidates will be responsible for implementing both quantitative and qualitative data collection activities in health facilities and community settings. This includes administering structured questionnaires such as facility readiness assessments, provider interviews, household surveys, and client exit interviews. In addition, designated interviewers will conduct qualitative research methods, including Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), ensuring that all responses are accurately recorded using digital data collection platforms like ODK and KoboToolbox.
Maintaining data quality is central to this role. Research Interviewers will ensure the completeness, consistency, and accuracy of all collected data. They will participate in daily reviews and validation sessions with field supervisors, identify inconsistencies or errors, and promptly report any challenges encountered during fieldwork. Proper documentation of field activities and observations is also required to support transparency and accountability.
Ethical compliance is a critical component of the position. Successful candidates must obtain informed consent from all respondents before conducting interviews, ensuring confidentiality and privacy at all times. They are expected to demonstrate professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and strict adherence to research ethics and safeguarding protocols throughout the data collection process.
The role also requires strong coordination and organizational skills. Research Interviewers will work closely with supervisors and team members to meet daily targets, adhere to travel schedules, and participate in training sessions, pretesting, and pilot exercises. They will also provide feedback on data collection tools and processes to enhance overall project implementation.
Candidates must be comfortable using digital tools, particularly smartphones or tablets, for electronic data capture. They should be able to troubleshoot minor technical issues and ensure timely synchronization of collected data to central servers.
To be eligible for this role, applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Public Health, Health Management, Social Sciences, Communications, Development Studies, or a related discipline. A minimum of one to two years of relevant experience in survey data collection—either quantitative or qualitative—is required, particularly within donor-funded health programs or development projects.
In addition, applicants should demonstrate strong communication and writing skills, including the ability to produce clear technical reports. They must be capable of working in demanding environments with tight deadlines and multiple responsibilities. Teamwork, facilitation, and coordination skills are essential, and candidates will be required to provide professional references during the recruitment process.
Jhpiego offers competitive remuneration and a comprehensive benefits package. As an equal opportunity employer, the organization promotes diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all qualified individuals are considered without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, or other non-relevant characteristics.
Interested candidates are required to submit a single document that includes a cover letter, detailed resume, and references through the official Jhpiego careers portal.
Applicants are advised to beware of recruitment scams. Jhpiego does not request any fees at any stage of the hiring process, and all official communication is conducted through verified email addresses ending with @jhpiego.org.
This opportunity is ideal for early-career professionals seeking to contribute to impactful health research while gaining hands-on experience in large-scale data collection projects across Nigeria.
