Position Summary
The Safety & Security Manager (SSM) leads all security systems in Nigeria, with a primary focus on humanitarian operations in the Northeast.
The role involves:
- Advising senior leadership on security matters
- Developing and implementing security policies and procedures
- Supporting program teams to integrate security into operations
- Training and mentoring field security staff
- Coordinating with global teams and external stakeholders (UNDSS, NGOs, embassies)
Key Responsibilities
1. Security Information & Analysis
- Monitor the security environment, especially in Northeast Nigeria
- Produce analytical reports and weekly security briefs
- Provide real-time advice to leadership and field teams
2. Security System Management
- Develop and implement Security Management Plans
- Oversee evacuation and hibernation procedures
- Conduct risk and security assessments
- Ensure availability and proper use of security equipment
- Manage incident reporting and tracking systems
- Organize crisis simulations and safety drills
- Ensure compliance with Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS)
3. Staff Management & Technical Support
- Recruit, train, and supervise security personnel
- Mentor field-level security focal points (SFPs)
- Support onboarding and security orientation for staff
- Identify and deliver security training needs
- Provide technical support to partner organizations
4. Coordination
- Engage in inter-agency security coordination
- Build networks with UN, NGOs, and government bodies
- Maintain regular communication with field teams
- Promote collaboration on security strategies
5. Organizational Learning & Accountability
- Dedicate time to learning and development initiatives
- Ensure accountability to beneficiaries and adherence to international standards

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- 3–5 years of field experience in safety and security (NGO/humanitarian context)
- Experience designing and managing security systems
- Strong understanding of complex emergencies
- Excellent communication, coordination, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and within diverse teams
- Experience in Northeast Nigeria is an advantage
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)

- Reports to: Operations Director / Country Director
- Supervises: Senior Safety & Security Officer
