Première Urgence Internationale (PUI), a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious international aid organization, is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Protection Coordinator in Abuja (FCT). The organization is dedicated to supporting civilians affected by marginalization, natural disasters, conflict, and economic instability by addressing their fundamental needs and helping them regain dignity and self-sufficiency. Since commencing operations in Nigeria in 2016, PUI has expanded its humanitarian footprint from Borno State to other critical regions, including Zamfara and Katsina.
The Protection Coordinator serves as the Head of the Protection Department and provides strategic and technical leadership for all protection programming across multiple states. This role is responsible for ensuring the quality, coherence, and overall impact of integrated protection interventions, including gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, protection monitoring, psychosocial support, and community-based protection initiatives.
Working closely with senior technical teams and advisors, the coordinator leads the design and implementation of protection strategies, ensuring that all programs are survivor-centered, evidence-driven, and aligned with international humanitarian standards. The role also involves continuous context analysis, program adaptation, stakeholder engagement, and representation at coordination platforms such as protection clusters and inter-agency forums.
In addition to program oversight, the Protection Coordinator manages high-level reporting, contributes to proposal development, and supports fundraising efforts. The position includes supervising senior protection staff, strengthening team capacity, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Budget oversight, logistics coordination, and contributions to security planning are also key components of the role.
Applicants must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Humanitarian Project Management, Social Sciences, Law, or Gender Studies, along with a minimum of five years’ experience in senior protection programming within humanitarian contexts. Strong expertise in GBV programming, protection monitoring, and working in high-risk environments is essential.
