Organization Overview

Elela Care Humanitarian and Development Organization is a youth led Nigerian non profit organization founded in 2022 and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. The organization is based in Maiduguri, Borno State. It works across Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Benue States to support vulnerable communities through humanitarian response, development programming and climate resilience initiatives.

Job Summary

The Project Officer will be responsible for the day to day implementation, coordination, monitoring and reporting of the RENEW Michika project activities. The role focuses on delivering women led interventions in biomass briquette production, energy efficient clay stove production, tree planting, climate education and community engagement. Moreover, the successful candidate will ensure donor compliance, promote sustainability of project outcomes and strengthen community ownership of climate resilience initiatives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Project Officer will lead the planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and reporting of project activities.

The role includes managing community mobilisation, participant selection and training logistics for briquette production, stove construction and tree planting activities.

The Project Officer will engage project participants, local leaders, women’s cooperatives, schools, youth groups and partner institutions. These partner institutions include the Adamawa State Ministry of Environment for technical guidance and oversight.

The role involves conducting routine monitoring visits to track progress against key indicators such as household adoption rates, tree survival rates and reduced firewood use.

The candidate will collect data, document outcomes and prepare activity and narrative reports.

The Project Officer will facilitate participatory and gender responsive approaches using local languages and practical methods. This will promote long term behaviour change and community ownership.

The role includes supporting stakeholder engagement, risk management, project visibility and documentation of lessons learned for project close out and sustainability.

The Project Officer will represent the organization in relevant local coordination meetings. Furthermore, the officer will contribute to organisational learning on climate resilience and clean energy programming.

Position Requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Development Studies, Natural Resource Management, Project Management, Social Sciences or a related field.

Candidates should have at least two to three years of experience in NGO project implementation. Preferably, this experience should be in climate resilience, clean energy, reforestation, community development or environmental projects in North East Nigeria.

Applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for tracking and reporting.

Candidates should be able to work independently in rural field settings and demonstrate initiative, flexibility, tact and diplomacy.

Salary

Monthly gross salary ranges from one hundred thousand naira to two hundred thousand naira depending on experience and qualifications.
