Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) – Key Information on Streams
Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) – Key Information on Streams 2, 3 & Unassigned Status
The Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) continues to play a vital role in improving electricity access and ensuring efficient metering across Nigeria. As part of the programme rollout, applicants may see different classifications on their PMI dashboard, including Stream 2, Stream 3, or Unassigned. Below is an overview to help participants better understand what each status means.
About the Streams:
Stream 1 – DISREP (Distribution Sector Recovery Program)
This stream is funded by the World Bank under the Distribution Sector Recovery Program (DISREP). It focuses on upgrading electricity infrastructure and strengthening distribution networks through participating Distribution Companies (DisCos).
Stream 2 – MAF (Meter Acquisition Fund)
Stream 2 is funded by Distribution Companies (DisCos) through the NERC-approved Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF). This stream is responsible for the procurement and rapid deployment of smart prepaid meters to unmetered customers. Training and deployment under this stream are carried out based on DisCo-funded operations and schedules.
Stream 3 – PMI-SGDL (Presidential Metering Initiative – SGDL)
This is the flagship stream of the PMI programme, funded through the Federation Account (Federal, State, and Local Governments). Training and deployment in this stream follow the official implementation plan aligned with government funding and national rollout strategies.
Unassigned Status:
Applicants whose dashboards display “Unassigned” should note that their applications have not yet been allocated to any specific stream. This is a normal part of the process, and allocation may occur as the programme progresses.
Important Information for Applicants:
• Being placed in Stream 2 or Stream 3 does not indicate that one applicant is more successful than another
• Each stream operates under different funding sources, timelines, and deployment strategies
• Training and deployment schedules may vary depending on stream allocation, location, and assigned DisCo
• Applicants are encouraged to regularly check their dashboards for updates on their status
General Advisory:
Participants are advised to remain patient throughout the process, especially if their status is still marked as “Unassigned.” The PMI programme is structured in phases, and updates will be communicated as allocations are finalized.
The Presidential Metering Initiative remains committed to improving electricity access, ensuring accurate billing, and powering a brighter future for all Nigerians.
Stay informed, remain patient, and get ready to contribute to powering Nigeria.
