PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITY: HEALTHY LIVING STUDY (NIGERIA)

Program Duration: 6 Months

Focus: Supporting healthier eating and physical activity for young Nigerians

STUDY OVERVIEW

NDDI Africa, in collaboration with the International Society for Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA), is launching the Healthy Living Study in Nigeria. This 6-month research initiative aims to provide structured, evidence-based lifestyle support to young Nigerians aged 18–40 who identify as overweight or living with obesity. The study will utilize digital tools and guidance from trained healthcare professionals to promote healthier eating habits and increase physical activity levels.

STUDY OBJECTIVES

  To assess the effectiveness of digitally delivered nutrition counseling and a mobile application in supporting healthy eating and physical activity.

  To empower young Nigerians with tools and strategies for sustainable lifestyle changes.

  To gather valuable data for future public health interventions focused on obesity prevention.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Prospective participants must meet the following criteria to express their interest:

  Age: Between 18 and 40 years old.

  Residency: Must be a current resident of Nigeria.

  Technology Access: Must own a smartphone with reliable internet access.

  Health Status: Must self-identify as overweight or living with obesity.

PRIORITY STUDY LOCATIONS

While the study aims to reach young people across Nigeria, initial recruitment will prioritize participants residing in or able to access the following locations for any necessary assessments:

  Umuahia

  Abakaliki

  Abeokuta

  Ile-Ife

  Asaba

  Uyo

  Abuja (FCT)

  Jos

  Yola

  Gombe

  Zaria

  Katsina

PARTICIPATION PROCESS

2. Screening & Assessment: Eligible respondents will be contacted by the study team for a baseline assessment to confirm their eligibility and suitability for participation.

3. Enrollment: Successful candidates will be officially enrolled in the 6-month study program, which includes structured lifestyle support delivered via digital tools and professional guidance.
