OFFICIAL CALL FOR APPLICATIONS MERCATOR-IPC FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM 2026/27

The Istanbul Policy Center–Sabancı University–Stiftung Mercator Initiative is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2026/27 round of the prestigious Mercator-IPC Fellowship Program. This fellowship offers a unique opportunity for global scholars, journalists, practitioners, and professionals to conduct in-depth research and contribute to critical policy discourse.

GLOBAL OPPORTUNITY

The Mercator-IPC Fellowship Program is open to applicants from all countries worldwide. We are committed to fostering a diverse and international cohort of fellows who bring a variety of perspectives and experiences to our research agenda.

FULL FUNDING

This is a fully funded fellowship, providing comprehensive financial support to enable fellows to dedicate their time and energy to their research projects. Support typically includes a monthly stipend, research expenses, and travel allowances.

THEMATIC AREAS OF FOCUS

The fellowship invites applications from individuals with a strong research and professional background in, or a clear interest in, the following thematic areas:

1. EU / German–Turkish Relations: Research and analysis focusing on the multifaceted dynamics, challenges, and opportunities within the relationship between the European Union, Germany, and Turkey. This includes political, economic, social, and cultural dimensions.

2. Climate Change: Investigating pressing issues related to climate change, including but not limited to climate policy, environmental governance, renewable energy transitions, climate resilience, and the socio-economic impacts of climate change.

FELLOWSHIP STRUCTURE AND EXPECTATIONS

Fellows are expected to conduct independent research within their chosen thematic area, produce substantial academic work (such as policy briefs, research papers, or articles), and actively participate in the intellectual life of the Istanbul Policy Center. This includes engaging in workshops, seminars, and public events.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

The program welcomes applications from:

•  Academics: PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers with a strong publication record.

•  Journalists: Experienced professionals interested in in-depth policy analysis and investigative reporting.

•  Practitioners: Individuals from think tanks, NGOs, governmental or intergovernmental organizations with policy-relevant research experience.

•  Professionals: Individuals from the private sector or civil society with a demonstrated interest and capacity for policy-oriented research.
