Africa Youth Growth Foundation (AYGF) is a regional non-governmental organisation working across thematic areas including Migration, Public Health, Education, Democratic Governance, Livelihoods, Climate Change and Environment.

JOB SUMMARY

The Program Officer, Education will lead the design, implementation and monitoring of education-focused programmes aimed at promoting access to quality education, particularly for marginalised and underserved communities.

The role involves working with government agencies, schools, teachers, parents, communities and other stakeholders to support educational initiatives and promote inclusive learning environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop and implement education programmes aligned with AYGF’s mission, objectives and strategic priorities.
2. Conduct needs assessments, baseline surveys and situational analyses to identify education challenges, gaps and opportunities.
3. Design and oversee interventions aimed at improving access to quality education and learning outcomes.
4. Promote inclusive education practices and equitable access to learning opportunities.
5. Coordinate with government education authorities, schools, teachers’ associations and community-based organisations.
6. Support advocacy for education policies and initiatives that promote equity and inclusion.
7. Facilitate capacity-building activities, workshops and training for teachers, education officials, parents and community members.
8. Provide technical support to schools and educational institutions in areas such as curriculum development, teacher training, classroom management and student assessment.
9. Monitor and evaluate programme activities and outcomes.
10. Document best practices, lessons learned and success stories.
11. Represent AYGF at relevant education forums, conferences and events.
12. Support advocacy and knowledge-sharing activities within the education sector.
13. Monitor emerging education trends, research and best practices and incorporate relevant knowledge into programme strategies.
14. Supervise and mentor programme staff and provide performance feedback and support.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to:

1. Timely implementation of education programmes according to approved work plans and budgets.
2. Achievement of programme objectives and targets.
3. Improvements in education access, enrolment, retention and learning outcomes.
4. Compliance with programme quality standards, donor requirements and organisational policies.
5. Accurate programme data collection, analysis and reporting.
6. Effective partnerships and collaborations supporting programme sustainability.
7. Staff performance, coaching and professional development.
8. Effective representation and advocacy within the education sector.
9. Strong leadership, teamwork and ethical conduct.
10. Continuous professional learning and development.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Degree in Education, International Development, Social Sciences or a related field.
2. Minimum 3 years of experience in education programme management, preferably within the NGO sector.
3. Strong understanding of education access, quality, equity and inclusion.
4. Experience building and maintaining partnerships with government agencies, civil society organisations, donors and other stakeholders.
5. Experience in project management, research, policy advocacy and programme development.
6. Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
7. Demonstrated leadership, teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant statistical analysis software.
