1. WASH ENGINEER

JOB SUMMARY

The WASH Engineer will oversee technical interventions aimed at improving access to safe water, sanitation facilities and hygiene practices while supporting the rehabilitation and construction of community infrastructure.

The role will provide technical guidance to project teams, coordinate with government and humanitarian stakeholders, supervise construction activities and contribute to sustainable WASH solutions for vulnerable communities in Borno and Katsina States.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Supervise water and sanitation construction and rehabilitation activities.
2. Conduct technical assessments and prepare designs and Bills of Quantities.
3. Conduct site visits and ensure construction quality and compliance with technical specifications.
4. Support the design and construction of water systems, including abstraction, storage, treatment and distribution.
5. Assess sanitation needs and design appropriate sanitation systems in consultation with communities.
6. Conduct water quality testing and share results with the WASH technical team.
7. Support water-resource data collection and monitoring in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
8. Develop technical guidelines, tools and training materials.
9. Train staff, partners, WASH committees, artisans and government stakeholders.
10. Support gender-sensitive WASH committees and community engagement.
11. Coordinate with hygiene promotion, sanitation marketing, logistics and other programme teams.
12. Liaise with local government and sector stakeholders on WASH implementation.
13. Prepare technical, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.
14. Maintain accurate data and facility mapping using relevant tools, including MWater.
15. Ensure WASH activities comply with SPHERE minimum standards and other relevant guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Bachelor’s degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Geology, Building or a related field.
2. At least 3 years of progressive experience supervising WASH-related construction activities.
3. Experience in the design, supervision and implementation of water and sanitation infrastructure.
4. Experience supervising water and sanitation construction and rehabilitation projects.
5. Previous humanitarian-sector experience is required, preferably with ACF.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to work effectively in changing and challenging environments.
8. Fluency in Hausa and English.
9. Excellent report-writing and technical presentation skills.
10. Knowledge of Kanuri is an advantage.

2. MENTAL HEALTH AND PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT OFFICER

LOCATION: DAMASAK, BORNO STATE

REPORTS TO: MHPSS PROGRAMME MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY

The MHPSS Officer will provide high-quality psychological assessments, interventions, counselling, referrals and follow-up services to vulnerable populations, including children, adolescents, adults and families in Damasak.

The position will also support capacity building for health workers, psychosocial workers, community members and other stakeholders while contributing to MHPSS and protection activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conduct psychological assessments and develop appropriate intervention and follow-up plans.
2. Provide individual and group therapeutic sessions for vulnerable beneficiaries.
3. Ensure safe, confidential and appropriate environments for psychological interventions.
4. Use psychometric scales appropriately and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
5. Facilitate referrals to specialised MHPSS, health and protection services.
6. Provide psychological support to health workers and community helpers.
7. Provide remote psychological support where field access is limited.
8. Conduct training for health workers, psychosocial workers and other relevant stakeholders.
9. Supervise and provide technical support to trained non-specialists.
10. Support training and supervision of community-based organizations and stakeholders.
11. Contribute to training ACF teams on Psychological First Aid and psychosocial and protection issues.
12. Participate in clinical and technical supervision and contribute case studies.
13. Support the development of guidelines, protocols, SOPs and intervention methodologies.
14. Contribute to needs assessments, awareness activities, protection assessments and mapping of services.
15. Monitor MHPSS and protection needs and recommend improvements.
16. Contribute to data collection, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
17. Maintain strict confidentiality of beneficiary information.
18. Collaborate with other ACF departments and relevant humanitarian partners.
19. Represent ACF at relevant field-level meetings and coordination forums when required.
20. Promote gender, age and diversity principles throughout programme implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health Counselling.
2. Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in MHPSS, protection and/or care practices.
3. Experience in psychological assessment, counselling, follow-up, case management and referrals.
4. Experience working in humanitarian settings with vulnerable populations, IDPs, refugees or host communities.
5. Knowledge of IASC, WHO and community-based MHPSS guidelines.
6. Experience training and supervising health workers and community members.
7. Strong communication skills.
8. Fluency in Hausa and English.
9. Willingness and ability to travel to remote areas where services may be limited.
