Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) – Holland in Nigeria Limited by Guarantee, an international, independent, non-profit humanitarian organization, is currently recruiting qualified candidates for the position of Laboratory Technician in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State, Nigeria.
MSF has been operating in Nigeria since 1996, delivering life-saving medical care to populations affected by conflict, disease outbreaks, and malnutrition.

Main Purpose of the Role
The Laboratory Technician will perform clinical laboratory tests and analyses in accordance with MSF protocols, ensuring accurate diagnosis and effective patient treatment while maintaining strict hygiene and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
- Conduct laboratory tests including hematology, biochemistry, serology, bacteriology, and parasitology
- Prepare and process samples (e.g., centrifuging blood and urine)
- Record and report test results accurately
Equipment & Inventory Management
- Maintain laboratory equipment and perform minor repairs
- Monitor stock levels, storage conditions, and supply orders
- Ensure proper functioning of biomedical equipment
Safety & Hygiene
- Follow infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols
- Ensure proper sterilization, cleaning, and waste disposal
- Maintain high safety standards in laboratory operations
Blood Bank & Diagnostic Support
- Support safe blood transfusion processes, including screening and compatibility testing
- Manage blood storage and ensure proper usage based on expiry dates
- Conduct internal and external quality control (IQC/EQC) checks
Data & Reporting
- Maintain organized laboratory records and data systems
- Report issues such as equipment malfunction or data discrepancies
- Support continuous improvement in laboratory services
Collaboration
- Work closely with hospital laboratory teams and MSF staff
- Assist in referral sample management and coordination
Requirements
Education
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (essential)
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in laboratory work (NGO or MSF experience is an advantage)
Languages
- Local language: Essential
- Mission language: Desirable
Technical Skills
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet)
