In Nigeria, GIZ has operated since 1974, with a country office in Abuja since 2004. Many professionals are interested in jobs with GIZ due to its reputation and global reach.

Project Background

The GP Soil Matters Nigeria project, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, aims to transform Nigeria’s fragmented soil health ecosystem into a coordinated, data-driven agricultural system. Key project objectives include:

  • Enhancing soil health management and agricultural productivity.
  • Formalizing governance structures for soil health, including the Coalition of the Willing (CoW) and National Technical Executive Committee (NTEC).
  • Developing data-sharing agreements and integrating data into the Nigerian Soil Information System (NiSIS).
  • Preparing digital soil maps and a Fertilizer and Soil Health Roadmap.
  • Building institutional capacity and securing sustainable funding for long-term NiSIS impact.
  • Aligning national soil health efforts with regional frameworks such as the CAADP Kampala Declaration and West African Fertilizer and Soil Health Hub.

The project contributes to the Transformation of Agriculture and Food Systems (TAFS) Cluster, implemented in partnership with ECOWAS, to improve agri-business competitiveness, climate-smart innovations, and access to finance for small agricultural producers. If you are seeking jobs with GIZ, roles such as Junior Advisor offer an opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions in agriculture.
