Role Overview
CARE Nigeria is seeking a passionate and experienced Gender and Protection Sector Lead to champion initiatives that promote full respect for the rights of all individuals. This pivotal role will drive interventions that address gender inequalities, mitigate protection risks, and foster inclusive practices in line with international humanitarian, human rights, and refugee law. The successful candidate will ensure that no one is left behind, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, or background.

Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Leadership: Establish and lead CARE Nigeria’s Gender and Protection sector, providing strategic direction and technical leadership.
• Program Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, gender-sensitive, and protection-focused interventions across all sectors, adapted to the local context.
• Advocacy & Representation: Represent CARE Nigeria with state and federal government, UN agencies, and other partners on Gender and Protection issues.
• Program Design & Resource Mobilization: Integrate gender and protection into new program designs and lead resource mobilization efforts for the sector.
• Capacity Building & Influence: Support capacity building initiatives, policy influence, advocacy, and learning within the organization and among partners.
• Reporting: The position reports to the Assistant Country Director – Programs (ACD-P)/Program Director and works closely with other sector leads and program teams.

Qualifications and Experience
• Demonstrated passion and extensive experience in gender equality, protection, and human rights.
• Proven ability to drive initiatives that address gender inequalities and mitigate protection risks.
• Strong understanding of international humanitarian, human rights, and refugee law.
• Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts, particularly in crisis-affected communities.
• Strong leadership, technical, and strategic planning skills.
• Excellent representation, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
