Feeding Assistant
Location:
Borno State (Project Locations)
Job Purpose:
The Feeding Assistant will support the nutritional management of children suffering from acute malnutrition under the supervision of a Nutrition Nurse. The role focuses on delivering quality nutritional care in line with INTERSOS protocols, ensuring improved health outcomes for beneficiaries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide basic healthcare support such as wound care, swabbing, and local treatments while maintaining strict hygiene and asepsis standards
- Educate caregivers on the functioning of the nutrition center, including daily routines, feeding schedules, medical check-ups, and weight monitoring
- Distribute therapeutic meals according to medical prescriptions, ensuring adherence to treatment protocols (especially Phase 1 feeding guidelines)
- Monitor and record daily food intake of patients under nutritional treatment
- Encourage and support breastfeeding practices among mothers
- Monitor and record patients’ weight and vital signs (temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate)
- Identify and promptly report danger signs such as fever, vomiting, dehydration, or loss of appetite to the supervising nurse
- Apply appropriate care procedures in cases of fever or hypothermia
- Ensure constant availability of safe drinking water in the ward
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the facility, including equipment and patient areas
- Provide hygiene promotion and sanitation education to mothers, children, and the wider community
- Prepare ReSoMal (Rehydration Solution for Malnutrition) as required
- Support psychosocial activities (PSS) and ensure quality implementation where applicable
Position Requirements:
Education:
- Diploma or Certificate in Community Health Extension Work (CHEW)
Professional Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in nutrition-related roles
- Previous experience with NGOs is an added advantage
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Experience in nutrition case management and child care support
- Basic healthcare and hygiene practices knowledge
- Ability to monitor and report patient conditions accurately
- Experience in training or supervising others is an advantage

- Strong teamwork and cooperation skills
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure
- Good stress management

- High level of responsibility and attention to detail
Languages:
- Fluency in English is required
- Knowledge of local languages such as Hausa and Kanuri is an added advantage
