ABOUT MSF

Médecins Sans Frontières MSF is an international, independent medical humanitarian organisation providing emergency medical assistance to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare.

MSF provides assistance to people in distress and victims of natural or man-made disasters and armed conflict, regardless of race, religion, creed or political convictions.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform counselling and education sessions for patients in line with MSF medical and mental health protocols and procedures.

Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs of patients.

Promote counselling services and conduct individual or group counselling and basic psychoeducational sessions for patients and their families when necessary.

Refer patients to specialists or other institutions when additional support is required.

Participate in the development of materials needed for counselling activities.

Maintain accurate records and statistics of daily activities.

Participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss cases while maintaining confidentiality.

Report any problems arising during daily activities to the line manager.

Participate actively in trainings, supervision and intervision sessions.

Support sensitisation activities for MSF staff and external partners on mental health and psychosocial issues when required.

Discuss counselling challenges and difficulties with the supervisor.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct Psychological First Aid PFA for newly admitted caregivers and mothers whose children have died.

Provide psychosocial support to caregivers whose children are receiving care in isolation and ICU wards in ITFC.

Orient newly admitted caregivers together with Community Health Educators CHEs in ITFC and ATFCs.

Conduct HIV testing and counselling for patients and mothers of children aged 6 to 59 months in ITFC and ATFCs.

Conduct HIV and TB adherence sessions for caregivers of children aged 6 to 59 months.

Support conflict management and LAMA prevention in ITFC and ATFCs.

Conduct individual and group counselling sessions for caregivers in ITFC and ATFCs.

The responsibilities listed above are not exhaustive and may be updated as MSF activities evolve.
