The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is recruiting for the position of Communications Officer – Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) in Yobe State. CRS operates in over 99 countries globally, supporting humanitarian and development interventions aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable populations.
This role sits within the CGPP project and focuses on strengthening Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) strategies to support polio eradication and routine immunization efforts. The Communications Officer will play a key role in improving community trust, addressing vaccine hesitancy, and enhancing uptake of immunization services through effective communication and engagement approaches.
The officer will be responsible for developing high-quality communication materials such as stories, photos, videos, fact sheets, and brochures tailored to different audiences, including government agencies, donors, partners, and community stakeholders. The role also involves managing social media content, supporting visibility efforts, and ensuring consistent dissemination of project messages across appropriate channels.
A core aspect of the position includes building and maintaining relationships with local media, supporting advocacy efforts, and ensuring effective communication during campaigns and events. The officer will also contribute to training staff and partners on communication strategies and visibility requirements.
In addition, the role requires strong collaboration with government health agencies, development partners, and community-based organizations to analyze communication data and strengthen RCCE interventions. The officer will also support monitoring and evaluation efforts, documentation of success stories, and generation of evidence to improve program outcomes.
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field, along with at least five years of experience in development or humanitarian programming. Experience in health or immunization-related communication, particularly polio programmes, is highly desirable. Strong skills in Microsoft Office, desktop publishing tools (such as Adobe InDesign and Canva), and excellent writing and interpersonal abilities are essential.
