Digital Democracy Champions Programme 2026
Organizers: BBYDI & FactCheckAfrica
Application Deadline: Wednesday, 29 July 2026 (11:59 PM WAT)
Mode: Virtual Training (August 2026)

AI-generated misinformation is spreading at an unprecedented rate, influencing public opinion and posing serious risks to democratic processes. In response to this growing challenge, BBYDI and FactCheckAfrica are launching the Digital Democracy Champions Programme, an initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with the skills and tools needed to identify, counter, and prevent the spread of false information—especially in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.

This programme aims to build a network of over 100 committed individuals who will serve as frontline advocates for truth, media literacy, and responsible information sharing within their communities and professional spaces. Selected participants will be trained to detect misinformation, verify facts, and promote accurate narratives across digital platforms.

Who Should Apply:
We are looking for passionate and proactive individuals between the ages of 18 and 35, including:

  • Teachers and educators
  • Journalists and media practitioners
  • Civil Society Organization (CSO) staff and volunteers
  • School owners and administrators
  • Student leaders and campus influencers
  • Youth leaders and community mobilizers

What You Will Gain:

  • Access to expert-led virtual training sessions in August 2026
  • Practical knowledge on fact-checking, media literacy, and digital responsibility
  • A token stipend to support your participation
  • An official certificate from BBYDI & FactCheckAfrica upon successful completion
  • Opportunity to join a growing network of digital democracy advocates
  • Hands-on experience contributing to election integrity and civic engagement efforts

Why This Matters:
Misinformation and disinformation can undermine trust, fuel division, and disrupt democratic systems. By becoming a Digital Democracy Champion, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the integrity of information, promoting transparency, and empowering others to think critically about the content they consume and share.

This is a non-partisan initiative, focused solely on strengthening democratic values, enhancing digital awareness, and supporting informed citizen participation.
