About the Role
The organization is seeking an Agricultural Officer to support the implementation of agricultural and livelihoods activities aimed at improving food production, strengthening farming systems, and enhancing the resilience of vulnerable households in Yobe State. The role also includes promoting sustainable fish farming and climate-smart agricultural practices.
The position focuses on building local capacity, improving agricultural infrastructure, and supporting income-generating activities for farmers, women, and youth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sustainable Agricultural Development & Livelihoods
- Supporting rehabilitation of irrigation systems, market gardens, and fish farming units
- Promoting climate-resilient and sustainable farming techniques such as agroforestry, drip irrigation, and greenhouse farming
- Supporting fish farming development, including training on production and processing
- Organizing farmer training on soil management, pest control, and post-harvest handling
- Facilitating farmer and fish producer groups for improved coordination and market access
- Ensuring distribution of agricultural inputs to vulnerable households
- Promoting agricultural innovation in collaboration with local institutions
2. Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitoring agricultural project implementation and reporting progress
- Conducting field visits to assess impact and gather feedback
- Supporting data collection on food security and livelihoods outcomes
- Preparing monthly reports and contributing to donor reporting and case studies
3. Community Engagement
- Engaging community leaders and local authorities to align activities with local needs
- Supporting coordination with government and humanitarian partners
- Serving as the main liaison between communities and ACF programmes
- Supporting community mobilisation and beneficiary targeting
4. Performance Management
- Supporting staff development and performance reviews
- Providing feedback and setting performance objectives
- Conducting regular staff appraisals and mentorship activities
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Agricultural Engineering, or related field
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in food security, livelihoods, agriculture, or climate adaptation programmes
- Experience in fragile or conflict-affected environments is an advantage
Skills & Competencies:
- Knowledge of climate-smart agriculture and sustainable farming systems
- Strong training and facilitation skills
- Project management and coordination experience
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Languages:
- English (required)
- Hausa and/or Kanuri (strong advantage)
