About the Workshop

In an era where the digital landscape defines how information is consumed, the need for skilled, ethical, and innovative journalists has never been greater. To address this need, the Jewel Literary and Creativity Foundation (JLCF), in a strategic partnership with renowned DW Journalist Sa’id Sa’ad Abubakar, is proud to announce a two-day intensive capacity-building workshop.

This program is specifically designed for emerging media practitioners in Gombe State who are eager to transition from traditional reporting to modern, impactful digital journalism. The training will provide participants with a deep dive into the technical and ethical requirements of the 21st-century newsroom.

What You Will Learn

The curriculum is carefully curated to cover three essential pillars of modern journalism:

1. Multimedia Reporting: Learn how to use audio, video, and photography to create compelling news packages that engage diverse audiences.

2. Media Ethics & Standards: Understand the foundational principles of accuracy, fairness, and accountability in the digital age.

3. Advanced Storytelling: Master the art of narrative structure to make complex news stories relatable and memorable.

Meet the Facilitator

The workshop will be led by Sa’id Sa’ad Abubakar, a professional journalist with Deutsche Welle (DW). With extensive experience in international reporting and digital media, Sa’id brings a wealth of practical knowledge and global best practices to help participants elevate their craft to professional standards.

Eligibility Criteria

We are looking for passionate individuals who meet the following requirements:

Age: Between 18 and 30 years old.

Experience: Early-career professionals or students with less than five years of experience in journalism or content creation.

Location: Must be currently based in Gombe State.

Commitment: Applicants must be available to attend the full duration of the workshop on both January 20th and 21st.

Logistics and Attendance

Please note that while the training itself is free, selected participants are responsible for their own transportation and accommodation (if coming from outside Gombe city). The specific venue and daily schedule will be communicated directly to successful applicants.
