Apply to the 2026 National MSME Awards

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially announced the launch of the application portal for the 2026 National MSME Awards, a major initiative aimed at supporting and scaling small businesses across the country. The program is set to disburse over N1 billion in grants to outstanding Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, reinforcing the government’s commitment to job creation and economic growth.

This development was disclosed by Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs, during a media briefing held in Abuja on Tuesday, March 31. According to him, the initiative is designed to provide direct financial support to businesses with strong growth potential, helping them expand operations, create employment opportunities, and contribute more significantly to the national economy.

The application portal is scheduled to open on April 7 and will remain accessible until May 7, giving entrepreneurs across Nigeria a one-month window to submit their entries. Adekunle-Johnson emphasized the importance of widespread awareness and encouraged MSME operators nationwide to take advantage of the opportunity. He also reassured applicants that the selection process will be transparent, competitive, and strictly merit-based.

Winners of the awards will collectively receive over N1 billion, with the grand finale set to take place on June 27. The event is planned to coincide with United Nations World MSME Day, highlighting the global recognition of the role small businesses play in economic development.

Providing further insights, Sarah Ajayi from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control stated that the 2026 edition will feature about 12 award categories. These categories will span critical sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, textiles, creative industries, innovation, and beauty and wellness. She noted that regulatory compliance will be a key requirement, urging applicants to ensure all necessary documentation is complete and up to date.

As part of the application process, shortlisted participants will be required to submit a clear two-minute video presentation showcasing their production process, value chain, and overall business impact. Applicants must also provide essential personal and business details, including full name, business name, location, and date of birth, with a minimum age requirement of 18.

In addition, businesses must meet certain legal and regulatory conditions. These include having an active CAC registration and a valid Tax Identification Number. Supporting certifications such as tax clearance, SON product certification, NAFDAC registration, SMEDAN registration, NEPC documentation, or ITF certification may also strengthen an application.
