Position Summary
The Agronomy Specialist will support agricultural research and innovation by designing and managing trials that improve farmer productivity resilience and livelihoods. The role focuses on generating data driven insights to inform program decisions and improve impact per farmer.
Key Responsibilities
Research
The specialist conducts literature reviews evidence assessments and expert consultations to identify innovative agricultural solutions that can improve farmer outcomes.
Trial Design and Management
The role involves designing and managing both on station and on farm trials to generate high quality data. Responsibilities include site selection input planning ordering and distribution of materials. The specialist develops protocols for trial activities and data collection ensures proper execution and supervises field teams. The role also includes regular field visits troubleshooting and continuous improvement of trial processes.
Data Analysis and Reporting
The specialist analyzes trial data using statistical tools such as STATA or R and develops impact models. The role provides actionable recommendations based on findings to guide program decisions.
Team Management and Capacity Building
The role includes supervising field staff conducting regular check ins and monitoring performance indicators. The specialist supports staff development through mentoring performance reviews and training. The role also involves recruitment and coordination with other departments.

Requirements
Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor degree in Agriculture Rural Livelihoods or a related field while a Master degree is preferred. Applicants should have three to five years experience in project management with additional experience in agricultural research considered an advantage.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in data analysis using STATA R or similar tools is required. Candidates must be skilled in Microsoft Excel Word and PowerPoint and demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
Additional Requirements
Candidates must be willing to live and work in rural areas and travel frequently to field locations. The role is open only to Nigerian citizens or permanent residents.
